Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Doctor Portnoy is a double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who specializes
in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His practice is located in
Manhattan, New York. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is one of William M.
Portnoy, MD, FACS', foremost areas of expertise.
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that
can be performed on upper eyelids for removing excessive, wrinkled and
drooping skin, or on lower eyelids for excessive skin or fat herniation
resulting in puffy bags.
Eyelid surgery can be done alone, or can be performed in conjunction with a
face-lift, or other facial procedures. The upper eyelid incisions can be
camouflaged within the natural eyelid fold. The lower eyelid incisions can
be performed in one of two ways: either just below the lash line or or they
can be made within the inner aspect of the eyelid (“trans-conjunctival”)
thereby rendering the incision completely invisible. Through either of these
incisions excess skin, muscle, and fat are removed. In some cases, the
underlying muscle will be tightened. The incisions eventually fade and blend
into the natural creases of the eye resulting in little or no scars.
