BOTOX®
William M. Portnoy, MD, FACS, provides BOTOX® to his patients from his
Manhattan, New York cosmetic and reconstructive surgery office. The safe and
quick BOTOX® procedure will smooth and temporarily eliminate wrinkles that
are caused by frown and worry lines, "crow's feet" and laugh lines.
Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX®) which is currently approved by the FDA, was
initially created for the medical use and treatment of uncontrollable eyelid
spasms. Since it's original medical indication, it has been used
successfully to treat excess sweating, migraine headaches, and muscle spasms
and constrictions. BOTOX® has exceptional applications in cosmetic facial
rejuvenation.
How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® blocks the impulses from nerves to facial muscles that control your
facial expression lines. Following BOTOX® injections, the facial muscles
relax and the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled. Untreated
muscles still contract allowing for normal facial expression to be
unaffected.
How long does BOTOX® last?
BOTOX® injections will last approximately 4-6 months, and must be repeated.
Do BOTOX® injections hurt?
Pain is minimal because the needle is so fine and small amounts are
injected.
What is the aftercare for this treatment?
After treatment, patients should be careful not to bend over or bend the
head forward for 24 hours, or engage in strenuous exercise.
When does BOTOX® start to work, and how long does it last?
The results of BOTOX® treatments start to appear in three to ten days. The
treated muscles will gradually regain their action over three to five
months. When the frown line starts to reappear, a simple repeat treatment is
all that is necessary to maintain the desired results.
Where will my BOTOX® treatment be performed?
Your BOTOX® treatment will be performed on site in Dr. Portnoy's office
located in Manhattan, New York.
