Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation of lip enhancement is a quick out-patient procedure
performed in Board Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon,
William M. Portnoy, MD, FACS' Manhattan, New York out-patient office which
results in fuller, plumper lips, and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth.
Lips can be injected with a variety of substances including collagen (human
or bovine), hyaluronic acid, synthetics (i.e. silicone), or fat which is
harvested from another part of the patient’s body (usually the abdomen).
Hyaluronic acid, collagen, and fat are eventually absorbed by the body so
repeat treatments may be necessary to maintain results. Silicone is
considered to be a permanent filler but can have side effects. There are
newer, longer lasting options such Restylane, an injectable filler. Board
Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, William M. Portnoy, MD,
FACS will review all available materials with you during your lip
augmentation consultation at his Manhattan, New York City office.
Who is a candidate for lip augmentation?
Patients (male and female) who desire their lips to be larger and fuller to
help enhance their facial features.
Women
who wants to highlight the mid portion of their face.
Older
men and women, as a result of the natural aging process, have noticed that
their upper lip not only has become thinner but also droopier, allowing the
space between the bottom of the nose and upper lip to lengthen.
Where will my lip augmentation procedure be performed?
Board Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, William M. Portnoy,
MD, FACS, will perform your lip augmentation procedure on-site at his
Manhattan, New York office located at 160 West 18th Street (Chelsea
District).
Does Insurance Cover Lip Augmentation?
Insurance may cover lip augmentation if the procedure is being completed for
reconstructive purposes, such as a congenital defect or as reconstruction
after an injury or accident. However, if you are undergoing this procedure
purely for cosmetic purposes, insurance most likely will not cover the
procedure.
What does lip augmentation feel like?
The lip filler is injected into the lip, which may cause some short-term
discomfort. Anesthesia and ice are often used to decrease pain.
How long does lip augmentation procedure take?
The lip augmentation procedure takes from five to fifteen minutes, depending
on the number of areas being treated.
How will my lips feel after lip augmentation?
Initially, after the lip augmentation procedure, you may experience some
pain and swelling. This usually lasts a few days.
When will I see results?
Your lips will look bigger and fuller after the procedure both because of
the swelling and the filler. There is also a tendency to “overcorrect”
knowing that some of the material will resorb. You will see the results of
the filler alone after the swelling has subsided within a few days.
